The funeral is on 14th September at 12.40 South West Middlesex Crematorium TW13 5JH followed by Bhog ardas at Sri Guru Singh Sabha Alice Way, Hounslow TW3 3UA.

Everyone at UNITED SIKHS wishes Gurmit Singh’s family to remain in chardi kala and to remember him by following his good example of seva.

A former solicitor, Gurmit Singh, initiated the UNITED SIKHS Help Desk during the Panjab Students crisis which saw thousands of students stranded without money and housing due to the poor economic conditions.  The Help Desk later went on to provide help to hundreds of immigrants under the Home Office’s Legacy and Voluntary Departures schemes. Today it’s a place locals go to when they are desperate for help.

“Gurmit veerji was at the Help Desk dutifully every Tuesday, even though he had health issues,” said Harbans Kaur, UNITED SIKHS Community Service Director.

“His family told us that Gurmit veerji enjoyed his seva at the help desk more than anything else he was doing,” she added.

We also remember him for the tireless seva he did setting up and manning the UNITED SIKHS booth during the yearly Nagar Keertan in Southall.

“I remember that Gurmit veerji arrived very early to book a spot and had brought his marquee and furniture in his white van, for last November’s Nagar Keertan,” said Sun Kaur, who was touched by his dedication.

We will remember him for his dedication and be inspired to carry on his good work at the Help Desk.
